The wildlife refuge is a 6,000 acre nature preserve that offers several easy trails through saw grass, marsh, and slash pine forest where you can encounter 500 different animals and bird species. The Fort Morgan Peninsula is in the bird and butterfly migration route. In early spring and late fall, the whole peninsula is alive with birds and butterflies including Monarchs and Gulf Fritillaries..
